2/2/2006, Marthon at school; Oysters in Aioi after school.

Marathon at school

Twice a year (I think), they have a marathon where the kids run around the neighborhood on a slightly long course.  Girls frun 5 km (3.1 miles) and boys run 8.5 km (5.3 miles).  They give awards to the winners.  Everybody gets a number indicating their placement.  Classes are cancelled for the whole day.  I'm not sure, but I think there were some other sporting events later in the day.  Here are a few pictures from the finish line.  The biggest thing was that the students looked and sounded so happy and healthy afterward.  They were all unusually friendly and happy when I talked to them at lunch time after the race.  Many proudly proclaimed their ranking upon seeing me.  It was great.

thumbnailSome sprinted through the finish, even if they were late getting there.
thumbnailThis guy is always spirited and fun in class.  Apparently it comes out in his sporting endeavors, as well.
thumbnailA whole staff of people awaited them at the finish line.

Oysters at Miwa's shop in Aioi

Just as I did a few days ago, I went down to the little village of huts near the station for some fried oysters.  I love the oysters around here.  They're delicious, very fresh, and local (a nice intangible quality).  This was my second time at Miwa's little shop.  Miwa is the owner.  She is native to Aioi.  Anyway, basically I just wanted to put her picture and these oysters up on my web page.  Note that I got two this time because they were so good the last time.  This was my dinner.

thumbnailThis is Miwa.
thumbnailAnd these are the delicious oysters she made me.
