9/18/2005, Akemi's flute recital, playing along on the piano

Akemi studies jazz flute.  Her favorite is bossa nova.  A couple times a year, her teacher organizes a recital where all of her flute students go and play a tune.  Last time, Akemi wouldn't let me go.  She was shy, embarrassed, or whatever.  This time, not only did she let me come along, but she let me play the piano with her.  I got a real kick out of that.  We did Paul Desmond's tune, Take Five, which he played with the Dave Brubeck Quartet.  We only practiced together twice, but I think it was enough.  It all went off quite nicely.  Naturally, I took some pictures.  The ones that include me were actually taken by the husband of one of Akemi's friends who studies with the same teacher.

thumbnailBefore Akemi's and my duet, she played a trio with two of her friends.  They did Moon River, with no accompaniment - just flutes.  It was nice.
