12/28/2005, Seattle trip day 5: Fumi & Yoshiro, MOHAI, UW

Visit Fumi, Yoshiro, and Hikaru (their 3-month-old son)

In the morning, we took the Edmonds-Kingston ferry and visited Fumi and Yoshiro in their new home in Lynnwood.  Fumi was my conversation partner in Seattle.  Through teaching each other English/Japanese, we got to be very good friends.  Since I saw her, she and her husband bought this home and, more importantly, had a baby.

Sightseeing around the University District

thumbnailFirst, we stopped in at the Museum Of History And Industry (MOHAI).  Lots of stuff about the history of Seattle.  Akemi picked this out of the guide book.
thumbnailFrom there, we walked back to the University of Washington.  The canal was beautiful.
thumbnailAt the university, we stopped in the new computer science building and walked around the prettier parts of campus.
thumbnailAfter that, we stopped at Bartell Drug Store and Akemi bought some souvenirs.  I took this picture of an ice cream price tag to show to Japanese people.  A pint of Haagen Dazs costs $2.99 (≈¥299) in Seattle, but about ¥780 (≈$7.80) in Japan.
thumbnailNext, we stopped in for coffee at Cafe Allegro.
thumbnailAn egg nog latte, a plain latte, and a raspberry bar were our chosen poisens.
thumbnailTucked in an alley, the place has a funky atmosphere to it.
thumbnailFor dinner, we went to Ivar's Salmon House on Lake Union.
thumbnailWe got some Alaska Dungeoness crab as an appetizer.
thumbnailAnd some king salmon...
thumbnail... and white salmon for dinner.
thumbnailThis shows the salmon a little more clearly, for what that's worth.
