12/27/2005, Seattle trip day 4: Will and Sandy, Bainbridge Island

In the morning, we took the ferry over to Bainbridge Island to see my very good friends, Will and Sandy.  When I lived in Seattle, I always enjoyed going over there for a Sunday.  It's a relaxing place to spend the day.

Ferry ride to Bainbridge Island

thumbnailAkemi enjoyed the ferry very much.
thumbnailHere she is with her tea in hand.  We stopped for coffee and internet at a cafe next to the ferry dock.

Breakfast at the Streamliner Diner

thumbnailThe Streamliner is a well-known fixture on the island.  It has changed hands since it got its big start, but I enjoy think it's still terrific.
thumbnailAkemi had biscuits and gravy.  Man, this stuff really doesn't make a good picture.
thumbnailI went for the daily special, an omelette with chicken-apple sausage, red onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, Jack and Parmesian cheese, etc.

Bainbridge Island Historical Museum

thumbnailWill volunteers quite a bit with the Bainbridge Island Historical Society, especially with the committee that publishes new books about the island's history.  The island has a history connected to Japanese-American's, so it was a sure stop, especially considering Akemi's interests.

More tromping around the island

thumbnailAfter the museum, we went for a beautiful walk at a park near the shore.
thumbnailWill explained the history of the park and the area as we went.
thumbnailInterestingly, Akemi seemed to have better comprehension.  I often asked Akemi in Japanese to repeat something Will had said.  I wanted to know about the history, but my mind just doesn't absorb that kind of information very well.  Akemi was rather tickled that she was understanding Will's English better than me.
thumbnailI LOVE the way these pictures turned out.
thumbnailI took a few.

thumbnailThis tree is pretty neat.
thumbnailHere's the bottom of the same tree.  Couldn't get it in one picture.
thumbnailAnd this piece of wood has been suspended, apparently by an artist, with some wires.  At first, you don't even notice it.  It's very subtle.  But, it's just hanging there in mid-air.
thumbnailIt was a really pretty walk.  That's Akemi in the center.

Coffee at Pegasus Coffee

thumbnailAfter our walk, we went for coffee at Pegasus.
thumbnailMy medium latte.
thumbnailAnd bread pudding.

For dinner, we had some rather fancy Mexican food on the island.  Akemi had crab chimichangas.  I had a big messy plate of enchiladas, including steak and smoked chicken enchiladas.  It hit the spot!  Really good stuff!  Akemi has kindly found some Mexican food in Osaka, but it's definitely better in the US.

thumbnailNo pictures of the food, but they had an interesting door.

Back at the ranch

When we got home, I took some pictures.  I don't have many pictures of Will and Sandy.

We stayed in their guest house, which is in an adjacent lot to their main house.  It's a little bit of a walk.

thumbnailOn the way to the guest house, I took this picture of the Christmas lights on their main house.
thumbnailWe were very comfortable in the guest house.
thumbnailThat includes me.
