8/28/2005, David trip: Osaka aquarium

One of my favorite places to take visitors is the Osaka Aquarium.  I think it's a beautiful place to spend a couple hours.  Staring into the tanks is almost magical.  And, I'm always amazed at how well it is taken care of, given the complexity of running such a complicated facility.  I guess this was my fourth time visiting the Osaka Aquarium.  I've also been with Jeremy, my mom, and Sara.  But, I always enjoy going.  Anyway, here are some pictures, all taken by David.

thumbnailThey had a special exhibit about sharks.  They also have a couple sharks (I forget how many, exactly) in the regular tanks, but this was an in depth educational exploration of sharks and also rays, which are similar to sharks.  This is a big model shark they had near the exhibit.

After the aquarium, we stoppped by the ice cream expo just one more time.  I picked up 18 different cups of odd flavors of ice cream, including beef tongue, eel, and ice cream made with little (about an inch or 2.5 centimeters) fish called "chirimenjako".  We had a couple cups there and took the rest home in a styrofome ice cream cooler with dry ice.

thumbnailDavid being David was compelled to play with the dry ice when we got home.  He put it in a bowl with water, put the bowl on the floor, and let it rattle around on the floor until the dry ice finally melted.
