8/6/2005, Fireworks in Osaka

I spent the weekend with Akemi in Osaka.  On Saturday night, we went to a fireworks display in Osaka.  This display is called the Yodogawa Fireworks.  Japanese fireworks are always really great.  You could argue that Japanese fireworks are the best in the world.  In some respects, this was a smaller show than what we had in my smaller town of Aioi.  But, the fireworks were nonetheless very impressive.  I took a few pictures, but that wasn't working out very well, so I tried taking some short 10 to 20 second silent videos with my digital camera.  That worked a lot better.  Even so, I know a picture or a video of fireworks isn't nearly as exciting as watching them in person when you can feel your chest vibrated by the blasts.  Still, I've enjoyed watching these with some music in the background.  Anyway, there they are.  These are all in QuickTime MOV format.

movieThis is probably my favorite.  There are no fancy patterns or shapes, but I just think it's pretty. (10.3 MB)
movieThis one's a little shorter, but it gives you a feel for how they fill the entire sky with fireworks.  If you look straight at the middle, your field of view is almost completely filled with fireworks. (5.4 MB)
movieThis one shows some more creative fireworks. (10.3 MB)
movieThis one is similar, more creative stuff. (10.4 MB)
movieThis is one of a few that are okay, but not the best parts. (6.1 MB)

thumbnailAnd here's one of the pictures I took.  Taking decent pictures of fireworks with out a tripod in the middle of a crowd is next to impossible.
