12/22/2004, Just a couple pictures of unusual, tasty food

Just a few pictures of food I enjoyed that is different from what you'd find back home.

thumbnailA sweet potato flavored chocolate.  ¥10 (≈10 cents) at the school snack shop.
thumbnailRegular chocolate on the bottom, a layer of sweet potato flavored cookie in the middle, all topped with a layer of sweet potato flavored chocolate.

For dinner, my buddy Matt and I went to a local cafe in Aioi called "Genki" which means "lively, doing fine".

thumbnailWe both had oyster rice porridge (kaki zosui).
thumbnailIt really was delicious.

It cost ¥950 (≈$9.50) each, which is definitely on the high side for cafes in Japan.  Then, if you consider you pay neither tax nor tip in Japan, it's still an awfully good deal.  Take that into account and it's comparable to a $7.26 entre in Seattle.
