9/23/2004, Two boys getting intimate in class, a near miss getting to school

Just a little tid bit about something I saw in my class today.  I came in a few minutes before class starts, as usual.  A male student was sitting on a desk and another male student was sitting in his lap.  He sat there for a while and then sat down on the ground with his head between the first student's legs, facing away from him.  In the US, this would be a social no-no.  In Japan, it's not so strange.  Nobody seemed to notice.  I've heard stories about girls in all girls schools kissing and carrying on to excess in class sometimes.  Just a reminder this really is a different culture.

Also, I barely made it to school today.  You see it's a national holiday today.  When I left yesterday, I knew nothing of the holiday.  Several other JET people told me about the holiday and invited me to a party.  They said all schools are closed.  Some Japanese people substantiated the story, so I said I'd go to the party.  Well, I got an email at 10:30 last night from a co-worker who reminded me about school.  When i got to school (on time), I got a bit of a lecture.  I'm not sure why.  I came to school on time.  But, my go-between was a little rattled that I was confused about the schedule.  Whatever.
